Rekindled Hearts: The Journey of Transformation

Writer's picture: Roohi BhargavaRoohi Bhargava

She’s sitting on the swing in the garden. Her eyes are teary and she seems a little upset. She’s a five-year-old girl and she’s murmuring something to herself. It seems that she’s lonely so it’s obvious for her to sit and cry even if someone shouts at her. She has a sensitive soul. Her trance is broken when the swing is pushed forward. Oh! Someone has pushed it. She smiles, as she finds it to be her friend. It’s a boy of her age; he smiles at her.

He gives the swing another push and then moves in front of the swing. She stops the swing and asks him to sit on it. He obliges and she looks at him.

“Thank you!” She says.

“For what? For letting you swing? That’s what I am supposed to do.” He smiles at her.

“No, for coming to look for me. Mumma is angry with me; she didn’t come to check on me. So, thank you for coming.” The girl replies innocently.

“I saw you alone, so I am here. How can I leave my best friend alone?” He replies in the same tone and it makes her smile.

The girl and the boy are best friends. He is a year older than her. These two are inseparable souls, as their mothers tag them. She might not listen to her mother, but she listens to her best friend and the case is vice versa.

The bond that they share is pious and beautiful and their parents are in awe of the relationship that the two kids share. It’s unusual to find such a kind of bonding between small children, but these two are different. Their parents are proud of them and they hope that these two will remain the same as they are at the moment.

The little girl looks at him, holds his hand in hers and gives it a light squeeze. She then smiles at him and it seems that she’s contemplating a lot before speaking.

“ You need to promise me something.” She looks at him.

“What’s it? I will make a promise, but only if I can do it. Mumma says, We must not make a promise for the name; we must try to abide by the promise." He asks, sensing that she may ask something that he might not fulfil.

“You promise me that you will always be by my side. I know we might not be together, but you will always support me.” She looks at him.

“We will be together. No one will be able to take us away. Promise, I will be with you forever.” He says this keeping his other hand on hers.

“Yes, we will do something together, just like Papa and Uncle do.” She says so, and he agrees with her.

She smiles brightly and then she hugs him. The two remain in the hug for a long time until they hear their mothers calling for them and then they head inside the house.
