“DOLLY WON’T PLAY” focuses on child abuse and sexual abuse. Usually, people make it a game, as portrayed in the book. That’s ridiculous, but if the child isn’t aware, it’s bad for them. This needs to be stopped.
I am glad that the author took the challenge and wrote so nicely on this sensitive topic. I was in horror when I realised that the little girl isn’t understanding the difference. For her, it was all love, but at the same time, It wasn’t love.
The little Girl “DOLLY” is quite relatable. Every child is shy and then friendly to the people who open up. The book has all the emotions, the pain, the anger crafted so gracefully. While reading, the reader can feel all of the emotions that Dolly was feeling therein. Uncle Uday got his own punishment for the bads he did with Dolly. I loved the way how the author portrayed everything serially, into four parts of the book. The first part of how Uday used to abuse her and it was a little game with her uncle uday. Second part, how she was proved sick, but her mother never left hope. Mothers need to be cheered for this. No matter how hard the situation is, a mom never loses her hope, she always tries to lift her child a little higher.
The third part begins when she is a teenager, when she could feel some wrongs were done to her and she finally realised it. And so forth, the healing. Any illness can be cured with love.
It’s rightly said by the author “we cannot heal in a quick second, but we need to start the healing anyway.” Thank you to the author for writing on such a sensitive topic and it does touch the reader’s heart. Well done!
